John Robert Dewey, 85, of Clear Lake Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2024.  He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Roemehl Dewey and their two daughters Kirsten Trotter and Andrea Grubbs, his niece Marian Martin and his 6 grandchildren, Miranda Perotti, Christian Palmer, Jonathan Palmer, Jack, Andrew and Ava Grubbs and great granddaughter Merrit Perotti.  He was born November 30, 1938, in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania to Drs. Robert and Ione Dewey. He had 2 older sisters Sandra and Marian.  He received a football and wrestling scholarship to Drexel University and graduated with a BA degree. He later earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of West Florida and Masters in Education from Bryant University.  It was at Drexel University where he met Roemehl Schubart and they were married December 30, 1961.

He was commissioned June 1962 in the US Navy and reported to his first tour of duty on the USS FISKE in Newport, Rhode Island. His next tour of duty was as an Engineering Officer on the USS England in Long Beach, CA.  His next tours of duty took him back to Newport, RI as a Senior Officer at the International Candidate School then to Bayonne NJ as the Executive Officer of a Destroyer.  In 1977, John served as Commanding Officer of the Underwater Weapons Range in Roosevelt Roads Naval Air Station, Puerto Rico.  John and his family lived 3 years of paradise enjoying sailing, snorkeling, horseback riding and island hopping. His next tour brought the family back stateside to Pensacola, FL as Executive Officer of Corry Station then served on the Admiral’s Staff at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola FL.  His final tour assignment was overseas to Stuttgart, Germany serving on the NATO staff at Patch Barracks.  The family soaked up the European culture with extensive travel, touring, skiing, hiking and food.  After 30 years of military service, John retired from the Navy in 1988 and used his military expertise to start a new career in the private sector with Lockheed Martin in Clearlake, Texas.

John enjoyed spending time at the Bay Oaks Country Club with his golf friends in the Bay Oaks Old Boys Society affectionally known as the (BOOBS). His many interests included golf, skiing, cards, travel, reading, watching old war movies, teaching adult Sunday school and running (including a marathon and several half marathons

He was a man of faith and was a long-standing member of Webster Presbyterian Church in Webster, TX.  He was well respected and admired for his bible knowledge as an adult Sunday School teacher and served as a Deacon and Elder of his church.  John was a kind and self-less man, and he will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

A Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving followed by a reception will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the Webster Presbyterian Church, 201 W NASA Parkway, Webster Texas.
