Bonnie Lou Peterson

07/30/1935 – 03/30/2024

Bonnie Lou Peterson was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho on July 30, 1935, to parents Kenneth and Farria McGlocklin. After years of fighting Alzheimer’s disease, Bonnie passed away on March 30, 2024.  She is survived by her husband Michael of 69 years, two children, Janice, and Brian, with wife Donna, two grandchildren, Erin, and Cole with wife Julia and two great grandchildren Evelyn and Amelia.

Bonnie was raised, along with her 3 younger brothers, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho and after completing her freshman year of high school in the spring of 1950, one of her brothers became seriously ill and the family needed to move to Spokane, WA to seek medical treatment. Bonnie completed high school in Spokane and graduated in May 1953. One month after graduation, on a blind date, Bonnie met airman Michael Peterson who was stationed at nearby Geiger Field, the local Air Force base. After their first date, Bonnie and Michael continued dating and in September 1954, they were married. About six weeks after their marriage, the military sent Michael to serve in Japan for 18 months to finish out his enlistment and when Michael returned in 1956, he enrolled in engineering classes at Gonzaga University in Spokane while Bonnie worked as a secretary for an electrical contractor.

Upon Michael’s graduation in 1960, Michael’s employment took them to the East coast for a year, then to the West coast for several years and then to Houston, Texas for Michael to support NASA. Janice was born during Michael’s senior year at Gonzaga (1960) in Spokane and Brian was born (1962) when they lived in California. In Houston, Bonnie was an at home mother until her children were in high school, when she started working outside the home. In 1975, Bonnie started work as the church secretary for House of Prayer Lutheran Church. Bonnie retired as church secretary in 1995 to join Michael in his retirement from NASA. During Bonnie’s work for the church, she attended weekly get togethers for breakfast with her lady friends and made decorated cookies for the children at church on special occasions.

During retirement, Bonnie continued her weekly get togethers for breakfast with the ladies and continued making decorated cookies for the children on special occasions. Michael and Bonnie tent camped twice a year with their children and grandchildren at Texas’s State Parks and they also did some traveling around the states visiting relatives. Retirement included many activities with the antique car club they belonged to for more than 20 years.
