Thomas Bernard Haney, 93, of Nassau Bay, formerly of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, March, 8^th at Methodist Hospital in Clear Lake surrounded by his family.  Tom was born on November 21, 1930, in South Bend, Indiana as the second of three sons to Bernard Edward and Ann Agatha (Nemeth) Haney.  Tom graduated from Washington Clay High School and served in the Army at Fort Benning, Georgia.   After being honorably discharged, he attended Purdue University where he graduated with a degree in Engineering Economics.   Tom initially worked for Bechtel and later CTS Corporation in Elkhart, Indiana.   In August of 1960, Tom married Mary Elizabeth “Liz” (Cusack) Haney and shortly thereafter they were transferred to Asheville, North Carolina. In 1964, Tom and Liz were one of the original founding parishioners of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Arden, North Carolina and were very active in the Church throughout their lives.  Tom was an active supporter of the South Buncombe youth sports programs for many years where his son Patrick was involved.   After serving 37 years in a variety of sales and managerial roles, Tom retired from CTS Corporation to care for his wife, Liz, who was terminally ill.    In 2016, Tom moved to Nassau Bay, Texas to live with his daughter Loret and son-in-law Jim where he became a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.  For the last 9 months of his life, Tom was a memory care patient of The Shores at Clear Lake.

Tom loved all sports and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in whatever sport was in season.  Growing up in South Bend, he regularly attended Notre Dame football games as well as Chicago Cubs games.  He was a devout Catholic who loved his family dearly. His sense of humor and ability to make others laugh was one of his greatest attributes and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter Loret (Jim) McMahon Nassau Bay, TX: grandchildren Erin (Matt) Eley, San Francisco, CA; Tom (Lindsey) McMahon, Jupiter, FL; sister-in-law Ann Drake, Estero, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Tom in death were his parents; his wife Liz Haney; his son Patrick Francis Haney; a daughter Bernadette; and brothers Gerald Haney and James Haney.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 6^th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston, Iowa with internment at Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the charity of your choice and take a moment to hug your loved ones.
