Janie Annette Letsinger Dostal
In loving memory of Janie Annette Dostal (Letsinger), who departed this life on March 4, 2024, at her residence in Houston, Texas. Born on October 1, 1947, in San Angelo, Janie’s life was a testament of her unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Her heart was not only for her family but also for the thousands of students she impacted throughout her career as a teacher.
Janie is survived by her husband, Paul Dostal; her son, Robert, and wife Dahria Driskell; her stepson, Ian Dostal; and her 3 granddaughters, Anyiah, Amarah, and Alivia Driskell. She also leaves behind her brother, Al Letsinger, and wife Jan Barton; Donald G. Letsinger and wife Judy, as well as beloved in-laws, Patty and Doug Cain, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her parents, James Alton “Ted” and Carrie Dale Crites Letsinger, and her brothers, Jerry, Jimmy Dale, and Bill Baldwin.
With a career in education spanning over five decades, Janie was a dedicated teacher who touched the lives of countless students through her work in Clear Creek ISD, Friendswood ISD, and several local private schools. She was a Southwest Texas University alum and a proud graduate of the Sonora High School class of 1965.
Janie’s interests included spending quality time with her family and friends, enjoying life’s simple pleasures, and engaging in activities that brought joy to those around her. She loved playing bridge, walking her dog, Lady, traveling to casinos (like the Beaux Rivage 3-card poker), and putting together puzzles.
A memorial service to honor Janie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 16 at 2:00 PM at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland at 2422 E. Broadway St. 77581. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Janie’s name to the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation or another charitable education organization in order to support her life-long passion of education.
An additional burial service will take place in Sonora, Texas in late Spring.
