Johnny W. Jones

Johnny W. Jones entered this world on August 14, 1931, at the home of his parents, John and Beulah Jones in the small rural community of Velma, Oklahoma. His grandparents who lived nearby, owned a large parcel of land with a creek running through it and many pecan trees — a wonderful place for Johnny to enjoy his childhood and to acquire a lifelong appreciation of farm and country life.

When Johnny was eleven his family moved to Duncan, where he graduated from high school in 1948. He went on to graduate in 1952 from Oklahoma A & M, now Oklahoma State University with a degree in Chemistry. It was there he met Julia Lindsay, who became his wife. After a long and happy marriage, Julia passed away in 2001.

Johnny’s first job out of college was with Celanese Chemical Co. in Pampa, Texas, but he was soon recruited by the army. Upon returning to Celanese he moved from “wet lab” into instrumentation. He then took a position with Callery Chemical’s new plant in Muskogee, Oklahoma, providing him with great experience in mass spectrometer. Johnny’s next position was with Texas Instruments, then with Consolidation Electrodynamics Corporation, part of Bell and Howell, which necessitated a move from Dallas to Washington, D.C., as Eastern Regional Manager.

With the knowledge that Houston, Texas had a growing potential in instrumentation, Johnny moved his family back to Texas, where he set up a direct sales office with Control Products. He eventually started his own successful magnetic measurement manufacturing and sales business, originally named I.S.E. of Texas, then renamed MagTech. The company was purchased by Emerson in 2012.

While living in Nassau Bay, Johnny became an EMT and served with the volunteer fire department, on City Council, and as Mayor.

In 2003 Johnny married Cleo Ward who was also widowed and a member of the Webster Presbyterian Church an both residents of Nassau Bay.

Johnny is survived by his wife Cleo, his daughters Terrie Jones (Robert) Bauer and Jodie Jones Bernier, by son John A. (Jupiter) Jones; grandson Nicholas (Gretchen) Bauer and granddaughter Lindsay Bauer (David) Ward; great grandchildren Luke and Annabel Bauer and Grayson and Vivianne Ward; his stepdaughters Lori Ward (Frank) Brown, Lisa Ward Price, and Lesli Ward (Peter) Hurt; his step grandchildren Erin Brown, Elizabeth and Thomas Price, and Allison Hurt (Jared) Park, and Sarah Hurt.
