James Ronald Harper “Ronny”

James Ronald Harper “Ronny”, 73 of Texas City passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 in League City.  He was born on August 18, 1950 in Jonesboro, Louisiana to James and Thelma Harper.

Ronny was a resident of Texas City for over 48 years. He attended Sikes High School in Louisiana and was an alumnus of College of the Mainland earning an Associate Degree in Drafting and Design. Ronny was a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps serving two tours in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient. He worked as a Machinist Inspector for A & A Machine in La Marque, Texas for over 39 years before retiring. He was a member of the Texas City Masonic Lodge #1118, Marine Corps League Detachment #668 Galveston, Texas, and Crossroad Dogs #177. Ronny also attended First Baptist Church of Texas City. He was an avid outdoorsman, taxidermist, and longtime supporter of the Texas City FFA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Danny Harper, grandparents Henry & Kenny Taylor, nephew Kevin Mitchell, brother-in-law Jerome Mitchell, mother and father-in-law Tommy and Marian Hildenbrand, brother-in-law Tommy Hildenbrand, Jr and best friend Bill Selman.  Ronny is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan Harper, two daughters and sons-in-law; Nikki Ashcraft (Heath) and Julie Rohling (Christopher), sister Janice Taylor (Dave), Aunt Jean Marceaux, sisters-in-law Terry Condon (Sean) and Phyllis Hildenbrand and five grandchildren, Cheyenne Rohling, Kyle Rohling, Sophia Rohling, Lexi Ashcraft and Ava Ashcraft and numerous nieces and nephews.

In his honor a visitation will be on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque, Texas.  Funeral Service will be at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at James Crowder Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Mills officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law Heath Ashcraft and Christopher Rohling, grandson Kyle Rohling, brother-in-law Sean Condon, friends James Harvey and Steven Tatsch. Honorary Pallbearers are longtime friends Lawrence Dellis and Roger Wilson.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Ronny Harper.

  2. Susan: Ronny was truly one of a kind. He was loved by many and will be missed. I’ve been praying for his healing and the Lord answered my prayers. He has a new body now and he is well.
