Albert Duana Kweyete, 68, transitioned on January 2, 2024.  He was born to the late Tenneh and Sekou Kweyete on December 16, 1955.  Albert’s mother Tenneh Kweyete was of the Kpelle tribe and his father Sekou was of the Mandingo tribe. Albert is survived by five adult children.  His children are Fatu Kweyete Jones of Middleton, Delaware; Sekou A. Kweyete of Dallas, Texas; Vivian Kweyete of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; Monika Trejos Kweyete of Orlando, FL; and Austin D. Kweyete of Orlando, FL. Albert leaves eight grandchildren, Jameer Kweyete, 14, of St. Petersburg, FL. Levi Kweyete, 5, of St. Petersburg, FL. Yaritza Kweyete, 22, of Brandon, FL. Yvette Paye, 16, of Pottstown, PA. Alvin Washington, 13, of Pottstown, PA. Siyatta Washington,12, of Pottstown, PA. Davina Railey, 4, of Pottstown, PA. and Darlington Railey Jr, 2 of Pottstown, PA. He has a surviving sisters, brothers and host of relatives in the United States as well as in the West African country of Liberia. Albert is also survived by a divorced spouse of a long-term marriage, Darlene Kweyete of Orlando, and Beatrice Gbatu of Philadelphia, PA.

Albert attended the University of Liberia and graduated Magma Cum Laude with a Chemistry BS degree in 1980.  He continued his studies at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida where he studied electrical engineering. Following his studies at the University of South Florida he attended a graduate program at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.  In 1992 he graduated with a master’s degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Central Florida. He wrote his master’s thesis on catalytic hydrogenation. He received special recognition for his work with catalytic hydrogenation reactions. While working on his master’s degree he also studied flavor and citrus chemistry.

Albert’s employment included working as an Environmental Chemist and Gas Chromatography- Mass Spectrometer and ITD specialist for the Reedy Creek Improvement District of Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. He held this position with Reedy Creek for 6 years.  Following employment with the Reedy Creek Improvement District he accepted employment as an Assistant Quality Assurance Manager for Florida Natural Growers in Lake Wales Florida.  Florida Natural Growers produces Florida Natural Orange Juice and other fruit beverages.  In 2005 he moved to Alvin, Texas, and accepted employment as a Quality Assurance Manager for Rice Tec Inc.  He was employed by Rice Tec Inc for 10 years. Rice Tec Inc produces hybrid rice seeds for growers around the globe. Just prior to semi-retirement, Albert worked for Riviana Foods in Houston, Texas for 2 years. Riviana foods also produces rice.

Albert loved the field of education.  For more than 30 years he worked as an adjunct chemistry instructor at various community colleges while working full-time as a laboratory Quality Assurance Manager.  Those colleges include Valencia College in Orlando, Florida; Alvin Community College in Alvin, Texas; Houston Community College in Houston, Texas; San Jacinto College South in Houston, Texas.

He was a humanitarian.  He made many sacrifices to help those of war-torn Liberia.  He served as an active member and President of the Tampa Bay Area Liberian Association.  This organization was established to provide aide to those suffering due to circumstances created during the Liberian civil war. The war in Liberia has concluded.  However, he intended to continue contributing to Liberia by establishing free online science and math classes for students in Liberia.  Unfortunately, his untimely death prevented him from making this a reality.

In his free time Albert enjoyed watching sports.  He was especially passionate about the game of soccer. He also loved hot spicy foods.  At times in his life, he enjoyed fishing. Albert touched a lot of lives.  He was loved and respected by those that knew him. He will truly be missed.
