Verla “Elaine” Luhninig
Verla “Elaine” Luhning of Fairfield, formerly of Texas City, Texas, passed away on December 30, 2023 after an extended illness. Elaine was born August 3, 1931 in Houston, Texas to William and Rosa Wilbanks.
After graduating from high school in Atlanta, Texas, she went to work as a telephone operator in Texas City where she met and married Peter Luhning. She also worked as a Key Punch Operator for NASA and retired as a receptionist at AMACO OIL in Texas City. After their retirement, she and Pete traveled throughout the USA, Mexico and Canada in their motorhome for many years until Pete’s health issues curtailed their travel. At that time, they settled in the Tomball area to be closer to their children and grandchildren. After Pete’s death, she remained in the area until recently when she moved to the Fairfield Nursing Home.
Survivors include her daughter, Delois Griffin and husband, Patrick; her son, Bryan Luhning and wife, Billie. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jason Griffin and wife, Donna; Courtney Ferguson and husband, Joe and Monty Ray and wife, Monica. There are 8 great grandchildren, Aiden and Brady Griffin; Kirstin, Kendall, Abby and Ashlynn Ferguson; Veronica and Everett Ray.
Memorial services will be held in the chapel of Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00pm. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
