Alan Wayne Otten

Former Pastor, Alan Wayne Otten was born to Mary Sue Venable and Haskel Kennedy in Panama City, FL on August 30, 1954.  When he was 8 years old, he was adopted by his stepfather, Donald J. Otten, taking his last name.  This was a foreshadowing of things to come, for, on August 26, 1973, Alan placed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was adopted into the family of the living God, taking on His name as a son of the King of Kings! This, he would refer to often as his “spiritual birthday”. As Alan spent decades serving the Lord, he also served 10 years in the United States Air Force, and achieved the rank of Staff Seargent E5, which was a great honor for him as well.

On June 14, 1975, Alan married the love of his life, Pamela J. Otten.  Their union lasted 48 years. They gave birth to 3 children, Joshua, Amberly, and Marisha.

Alan is preceded in eternity by his grandfather and grandmother, Winifred J. and Trudie Estelle Venable, his mother and father, Mary Sue and Donald J. Otten, his uncle and aunt, Richard and Pearl Venable, his brothers, Steven and David Venable, and by many other loved ones whom he considered close family and ministered to during his time on earth while having pastored 3 churches.

Alan W. Otten passed from this life into the presence of Jesus on December 24, 2023.  He is survived by his beloved wife Pamela and the true joys of his life, his children, Joshua, Amberly, and Marisha and their families: Joshua and Shawnna Otten and their children, Caleb, Abigail, and Samuel Otten; Amberly and Paul Watts and their children, Cody (and wife Jenna, and daughter Bryce, and son Jameson), and Cheyanne Watts; Marisha and Steve Ausmus and their children, Ella Grace Morgan, Audrey Ausmus, and Elijah Ausmus. He is also survived by his brother Richard “Mike” Venable and his sister, Sheree Lynn Hopper, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Alan’s impact on those he loved will last for generations to come.

There will be a memorial service to honor and celebrate Alan’s life on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 1:00PM. Service will be held at:

  1. Dear Pam and family,
My upmost sincere condolences to you and to your beautiful family. I enjoyed Al’s weekly sermons through zoom and his entertaining karaoke sessions he would do occasionally on Facebook. He always brought me a smile and chuckle when I tuned into his jam sessions. He brought me closer to understanding the words of the Bible and of our Savior. He’s eternally at the most happiest place and sitting beside Jesus, probably singing and playing his guitar. Love and hugs to the family, Pam.

  2. Dear Pam and family…holding all of you close in thoughts and prayers that God will shower each of you with “Philippians 4:7 (KJV) 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Through our eyes of faith, we continue to look forward to that coming day of days, grateful for scriptures of promise even as God holds all of us closer and especially during our sadness in the days ahead. “1 Corinthians 13:12 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” What a day that will be when we too will enter into paradise with our Lord and Savior along with so many that have gone on ahead, not for a snapshot in time but for the fullness of eternity, “Revelation 21:4 (KJV) And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.”
