Robert Patrick “Pat” Rudy

Robert “Pat” Patrick Rudy passed away peacefully with his family by his side early in the morning on December 23, 2023.

Pat was born on September 6, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas to Charlotte and Bonnas Rudy. His life was devoted to helping others, not only his friends and family, but those encompassed in his medical practice. Having graduated from UTMB in 1978, he spent 45 years devoted to medicine aiding countless individuals- patients became friends and friends became patients. Dr. Rudy was known for his innate ability to diagnose medical maladies, great respect for all people, calming bedside manner, ability to arrive fashionably late, and his storytelling. Throughout his life all who knew Pat found him to be calm in any storm. He was solace in battle and a patient ear. He enjoyed many hobbies during his life, from a coffee connoisseur, dancing, Spanish language, and photography, to sailing his one-of-a-kind Bristol Channel Cutter. Later in his life his greatest passions became his faith in Jesus and his grandchildren, the light of his later years. His children and siblings felt especially blessed by each of their unique relationships with him, his one-of-a-kind sense of humor, easy-going demeanor, and dependable wisdom.

Pat was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bonnas and Charlotte Rudy, his brother, Clifford Rudy, and wife Pamela Rudy. He is survived by his children, son Chris Rudy and daughter-in-law Courtney with Jana, Nolan, Liam and Lachlan, daughter Jessica Anderson and son-in-law Kenneth with Jacob, Benjamin and Hannah, and daughter Shelley Martin and son-in-law Daniel with Adelyn, Evelyn, Ella, and Allyson, as well as his sister, Carol Metheney, two brothers, Mike and Jay Rudy, as well as cherished extended family and beloved friends.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, January 6th at 2pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, TX to celebrate his life and all we love about him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Compassion International, a mission Pat always held in high regard.

  2. I am saddened by the news of Pat’s passing. Pat and I were best friends in high school and were the two leaders of the ROTC Corps of Cadets. I went on to trinity and pursued a 30 year military career whereas Pat pursued a career in Medicine and I’m sure he was very good at it. Pat was super smart and also had a heart of compassion for others. He will be missed by many.

Hugs and love to his brothers, sister, kids, grandkids and extended family.
The sorrow and grief that we feel at his passing is tempered by the belief that he is reunited with family in heaven and that he is healed. He will be missed and remembered!

Kept us on track and focused. 50 years ago and we were all still great friends because Pat or “Rum Man” was the glue that kept us going. MIss you my dear friend!
