Yvonne Jack
Yvonne Jack of Pearland, Texas, formerly of Dobbs Ferry, NY age 89, died on September 14, 2023. She was born in Barbados, West Indies to Evelyn Harewood Cozier and Edric Lionel Todd Cozier. When she was a child, she moved to Trinidad, where she eventually met and married her husband, Cecil Jack. They immigrated to the United States so that he could get his Ph.D at Columbia University. As soon as she became a citizen, she became a dedicated voter, voting in everything from school board races to presidential elections. Although she was not able to go to college, she believed strongly in the power of education and made sure that both of her children got advanced degrees. For many years, she worked at Community Nursery School, Dobbs Ferry, NY. She was a talented seamstress and excelled at all sorts of crafts, especially her handmade felt Christmas ornaments which adorn the trees of friends and family all over the world. She was also a talented quilter and was a member of the Bee Pieceful guild in Friendswood, TX. She was also known for her “black cake” and happily made it for friends and family every Christmas. Before the COVID 19 pandemic caused widespread shut downs, she was an active member of the Melvin Knapp Senior Center in Pearland and valued the friendships she made there. Many thanks to the myeloma center at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, especially the team of Dr. Sheeba Thomas
She is survived by her daughters, Valerie Jack and Marcia (Marcy) Jack Barnes (Nathaniel), grandchildren Geoffrey Barnes (Carissa Youse) and Katherine Barnes and great grandson, Adrian Barnes, and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Jack, her parents, and siblings H. Lionel Cozier, Reginald Cozier, Eileen Cozier Alexis, and Basil Cozier. Memorial contributions may be made to The Masters School, Dobbs Ferry, NY, The Kinkaid School, Houston, Texas or Community Nursery School, Dobbs Ferry, NY.
I remember her attempting to teach me how to make sugar cookies and I think peanut butter cookies as well – we were very lucky she had a sense of humor once she had me in the kitchen. Will think of her with love and always be grateful to have had her, and all of your family, in my life.
Dear Aunty Yvonne, I was so sad to hear of your passing. We will miss you greatly and this Christmas when I put up my tree with all your wonderful decorations that I have treasured over the years, I shall think you with joy and gratitude for your wonderful talents and your grace. Love Ini
My deepest sympathy Valerie and Marcy and to all the family, Lenny and family
Marcy, we spoke. You know that you have my deepest heartfelt sympathy. Yvonne ,(Vonnie) as we called her when we were children was more a sister to me than a cousin. We did not have the opportunity to see each other after we were grown up and living many thousands of airmiles apart; but we kept in touch. I feel sure that her beautiful soul will rest in eternal peace. My love to you, Valerie and the rest of the family. Much love from Auntie Joy.
