Dennis Courtney, of Alvin, passed away Saturday, February 25. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Edward Courtney and Mary Zmorzynski. He graduated high school from Framingham, MA and was president of Junior Achievement and a member of MENSA. He graduated college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from North Eastern University in Massachusetts. He received his Master’s Degree in Business from University of Houston Clear Lake.

He was employed by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) and later WR Grace, Monsanto, and AkzoNobel. He received numerous commendations from his employers and was highly sought after during his entire career.

He met and married the love of his life, Linda Roberts. They lived at their ranch, Double Tree Farms, in Alvin for over three decades with their much cherished horses, small herd of cattle, and numerous other fur babies.

Dennis was very athletic in his youth and early adult years. He competed in a semi-professional roller hockey league in Massachusetts and a bowling league and racket ball league in Texas. Although he wasn’t born in Texas, he got here as fast as he could. He enjoyed life on the farm and the occasional scuba diving trips. He really appreciated having his nieces and nephews at the farm and was able to teach them about correct tool and equipment usage and encouraged positive life skills. Two of his nephews, Aaron and Jason, spent quite a bit of their time on the farm learning to operate the tractor and implements, working and feeding cattle, taking care of the horses and general farm work.

He was proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 43 years, sisters-in-law, Denise Kayser and her husband, Rich of Gaithersburg, MD and Andria Varsos and her husband George, of Clear Lake, and brother-in-law Mike Roberts, and his wife, Bertha, of Montgomery. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Matthew, Catherine, Eve, Sarah, Heather, Danny, Christina, Alyssa, Angie, Aaron, Jason, Stephanie, Joey, Alejandra, Gabriella and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Extended family includes his aunt, Lucy Yuchak, cousins, Chrissy and Ted D’Amico, Katherine Cohen, Charles Courtney, Thomas Courtney, Lisa Courtney, Michael Courtney, Barbara and Robert Borra.

Also surviving are very close family friends, Seth Whitmire, David and Susan Tomchesson, Gary Simpson, Joyce and Ken McConnell, J.C. and Hannah Hernandez, B V Scott, Steve Mayo and Barbara Allen.

Funeral Services will be begin with visitation at 1 p.m. from Crowder Funeral Home in Webster, Saturday, March 4, followed by services at 2 p.m. and graveside services at 3:30 p.m. at Forest Park East in Webster.

Pallbearers are: Seth Whitmire, Mike Roberts, Aaron Roberts, Jason Roberts, J.C. Hernandez and Gary Simpson.

One of Linda’s fondest memory of Dennis was his willingness to participate with her equestrian activities and specifically him ‘running’ through the fields and woods chasing her on her thoroughbred horse at competition and taking pictures.

A couple of his loving nicknames from Linda were “Big Dog” and “Pookie”. He was very much loved by his family and extended family and friends and will be missed terribly. May his soul rest in peace and may the perpetual light shine upon him.
