Billy Dwayn Childress

Billy DWayn Childress, 83, passed from this life at his residence, TX, Monday, February 27, 2023. Billy was born on July 9, 1939 in Alvarado, TX to Charles Herman Childress and Winnie May Harvey. Billy and his late wife, Peggy, were residents of Bacliff, TX since 1971.

Billy loved his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1958. He received Honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1962. While in the Marine Corps he found the love of his life Peggy Anita Hagood. They dated 2 weeks and married February 1, 1961.  Billy began working at CBI doing NDT, X-ray, welding and building tanks; which called for lots of traveling and Peggy went too.  After retiring from CBI in 1996 he needed to keep busy and took up mowing grass for local residents.  He was hard working and would always lend a helping hand if anyone needed it.  They raised a family of 3 children and numerous fur family members. Billy never knew a stranger, spoke to everyone when he went shopping and always had a smile. He loved to joke around and in his downtime at home there was always a western movie or football on the TV. Billy truly had a broken heart when Peggy passed in August of 2021. They would have been married 62 years on February 1, 2023. They are reunited again.

Billy is preceded in death by his loving wife Peggy Anita Childress, parents, Charles Herman Childress and Winnie May Harvey (and step father Curtis Williams). Billy is survived by daughter Kimberly Childress, son Kelly Childress and wife Vicki, daughter Kacie Lara and husband Roger and grandchildren: Keith Grohmann and wife Emilie, Kelsey Sullivan and husband Meshach, Macie Ganey and husband Drew, Madalynn Childress and boyfriend Cayson Stanley, Makala Tarver, Yvette Hill and husband Chaz, Karissa Lara, Jennifer Lara and finace’ Juan Hermengildo along with 6 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his home on March 18, 2023, 3pm.

  3. Billy’s mother, Winnie, was my dad’s younger sister. The last time I saw Billy was when when he stayed with Charles Head, another cousin, and wife, Ruby Lee Head, for a short while after the love of his life passed.
Bill was a quick witted, gregarious fellow who was enjoyable to be around! Like his mother, Billy was a great story teller.
Billy was a believer in Christ and is now with his Lord!!
I pray God’s blessings on his and Peggy’s family.
I plan to be at memorial/funeral on March 18.
