Matthew David Garcia
Matthew David Garcia passed away on February 15, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 51. He was born in Tampa, Florida on November 29, 1971 to Paul H. Garcia and Tera Johnson-Garcia.
Matt was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, uncle (aka Gunkle Matt) and friend. He truly was a gentle giant who enjoyed the simple things in life. Matt loved floating the Comal and Guadalupe rivers and long days on the beach with his Bluetooth speaker and a cold one in-hand. He thoroughly enjoyed live music and concerts, especially big hair bands (Motley Crue anyone?) and country music. Matt especially enjoyed relaxing with family and friends, smoking briskets, frying turkeys (and eating them too), watching sports and smoking cigars around the fire. He could often be found watching his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Astros, flying off to Las Vegas to bet on the Sweet Sixteen and hunting with family. Matt exceled for 24-years in his professional career in the transportation industry; he was always at the top of his game. He truly admired everyone he worked with and they him. Matt prided himself on his work ethic and that of his team. His branch has repeatedly been awarded Branch of the Year.
Matthew is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Dora Perez, maternal grandmother Melva Johnson Kirschner, aunt Jacque D. Johnson, uncle Thomas R. Johnson and cousin Andrew D. Garcia.
Matthew is survived by his wife Meredith Garcia, their son Daniel F. Copeland Jr.; sister Amanda G. Garcia-Glass, her husband Richard P. Glass, their sons Gage P. Glass, Richard P. Glass and Carson F. Glass; brother Michael P. Garcia, his wife Emily M. Garcia, their sons Weston M. Garcia and Tyson D. Webb; sister Kimberly F. Garcia; his parents Tera Johnson and Paul H. Garcia; and multiple extended family members.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:00 am on March 4, 2023 at Crowder Funeral Home,
111 East Medical Center Boulevard, Webster, Texas 77958
followed by a celebration from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Esteban’s Cafe y Cantina,
402 West Main Street, League City, Texas 77573.
Matt was a wonderful son. He was gentle and kind. He also gave great hugs.I loved him deeply and will miss him each day for as long as I live. Matt accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior two years ago. My faith gives me hope in knowing that I will one day be with my son in Heaven. Please join me and my family in celebrating his life.
My heart is with the Garcia & Glass family. No words will ever relieve the pain of Matt’s loss; I know that. But I pray you all find the love he had for each of you in each other every single day that you have to live without him. Prayers for God’s love and mercy.
I remember Matt coming by our house every afternoon walking Chloe. He would always stop and let Boo, Babe, and Chloe say hello for a few minutes while we said our hellos. On his way back home he would stop again to say have a good evening.
Matt was always smiling, and would be glad anytime he could help with something.
I will really miss Matt. I surely did love him.
I had the pleasure of working with Matt for over twenty years. I saw him grow from a naive college graduate into the respected leader he became. During that time, Matt’s love for his Family, Longhorns, and Steelers never wavered or lessened. I will miss the frequent meals with him and catching up. I am going to miss him. My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time. I pray that God to bless the family with strength and love.
Matt was always a joy to be around. His thoughtfulness was always on display.
I enjoyed his hugs so very much. I hugged him around his waist and he had to bend
down to hug me back. More hugs to come in Heaven
I was blessed to have known Matt for many years as a co-worker and eventually a friend. I have fond memories of our times together at a few of those live concerts, having a cigar together and our multiple trips to Vegas for March Madness. He will be missed greatly. Debra and I send our deepest sympathies and prayers for comfort and strength to Meredith and the rest of Matt’s family and friends who remain.
Matt sounds like a guy we will look forward to meeting in Heaven. We will have an eternity to tell him what a wonderful father Paul had to have been. We love you, Paul and Mary,

Matt was the epitome of the word neighbor. He always had a friendly smile and greeting for us. But, most importantly, he was quick to help us. We are older and Matt or Meredith often rolled our trash bins back from the street. During the Texas freeze, Matt did the impossible and found us firewood. It helped keep us warm during the long hours without power. We will miss his frequent greetings. We are keeping his loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
Matt was the epitome of a good neighbor. He always greeted us with a friendly smile. He and Meredith would bring our trash bins in from the street. I was most grateful when he was able to find and bring us firewood during the Texas freeze. It was hard to come by, but Matt found just enough to get us through until our electricity was restored. He will be greatly missed. We are holding Meredith and Matt’s loved ones in our prayers.

Matt was a wonderful big brother. I know God only loans them to us, and I feel incredibly blessed to have been chosen to be his little sister. His influence greatly impacted our lives and we will carry him everywhere. I looked up to him, he was funny, calm, friendly, smart, loyal, dependable. I knew if we took a family vacation and big bro was going to be there, that it would be an even better time. He never met a stranger, and had more friends than anyone I know. Whenever I was in any kind of trouble or difficulty making decisions… he always answered, picked me up, covered for me, and was there to offer guidance. He was selfless and loved others. A kind and gentle man, he made the world a brighter place and his light will be greatly missed. Save me a seat brother… I’ll see you when it’s my time. Love you forever.
We will really miss Matt, he was a great neighbor and friend. He always stopped and visited when walking Chloe, you could tell how much he loved Chloe.He always did such a good job of keeping his yard looking so good, I was always jealous. You could tell how much pride he took in everything he did. He was a good friend and I will miss him.
