Richard J. Garcia
Richard J. Garcia (75) a resident of La Marque, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2022 at Kindred Hospital in Clear Lake. Richard was born to Simone and Fred Garcia on October 21, 1947 in Galveston, Texas. He was a graduate of La Marque High School, Class of ’68, and worked at Todd Shipyard as a Welder before becoming a police officer in 1985. Richard later went to work at the Port of Galveston as a Patrolman and retired at the rank of Sergeant.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Thomas Garcia. Richard is survived by his son Richard Thomas Garcia, daughter Brittany Garcia-O’Connor, son-in-law Jesse O’Connor, niece Ashlee Garcia and sister Maryann Rodriguez. He also leaves behind grandsons David Godinez, Kaleb Mora, Mychal Garza- O’Connor, granddaughters Hailey & Bailey O’Connor, and great-nieces Zoe Molina and Lauren Diaz de León.
A visitation will be on Friday, November 18, 2022 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque.

Richard was an amazing man. He has given me so many wonderful memories. He has taught me so many wonderful things in life. He has kept me laughing thru the years. There are not to many people like Richard that has such a big heart. It saddened me the last time we spoke. He told me it was time and he was tired. I asked him to fight but he repeated he was tired. You can rest now my friend in your eternal paradise called home. Thank you for your friendship over theses years. You will be terribly missed here on this earth by so many family and friends. Until we meet again

My heart is aching for his loss, but I also rejoice that he is no longer in pain.
Richard was the middle child, and I crushed his world when I was born. As I saw it, he was the King and light of my grandmother and dad. As he saw it, I knocked him off his thrown. LOL! We would butt heads as children, teenagers, and adults. And thank God we had our older brother, Thomas, to be the buffer. As we aged, we mellowed. It was just the two of us left.
As you all know, I’m not too fond of the fall, November in particular. My dad had a major stroke in the month of November. We lost my brother, Thomas, and I lost Tony and now my brother, Richard, in November. He is now with Thomas and Tony cutting up, discussing The Alamo, what they did wrong, How The West Was Won, and when The Cowboys are going to win The Super Bowl. LOL!
I’m going to miss him terribly. After Tony died, he was the one who would call me every day, mornings and evenings, to check on me. I’ll miss our full of nonsense chats and his reminiscing of our childhood.
He was about 6yrs of age in the first picture. I can’t get over how much Mychal looks like his grandfather at this age.
Rest In Peace, My Love. I’ll be there one day to knock you off your thrown again.
I was so sorry to hear that uncle Richard had passed away. We lost touch with one another many years ago for no other reason than dealing with life. We shared many fun times together whenever he stayed at our house in both Galveston and League City. Generally those times centered around his Honda 305 motorcycle, a little alcohol and late night encounters. His laughter I will always remember. I never looked at Richard as an uncle and I guess it was because we were so close in age. He was more like a big brother. Rest in peace Richard. God bless.
