Gregory Howard Mason
Gregory Howard Mason, 61, a 24-year resident of Friendswood, TX, passed away on October 1, 2022 at his home. He was born in Hampton, VA on May 21, 1961, yet grew up in Pasadena, TX. He always joked that at the age of 3, he packed up his family and moved them to Pasadena, Texas, so his father could continue his work for NASA at the newly opened Johnson Space Center.
Greg graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena. He then attended The University of Texas at Austin where he graduated Cum Laude earning a B.S. in Finance in 1987. He then married, Pamela Kepka in 1988 and started a family in nearby Clear Lake City. He later received his MBA from The University of Houston at Clear Lake. He worked on many NASA contracts throughout his 24 years in the Aerospace Industry and became the Houston-Area Financial Business Manager for Ares Corporation before his career ended because of a debilitating progressive spinal disease.
He lived many years as a “Pain Warrior” and despite his disability, he still had a hunger for knowledge in all realms. Greg certainly had a mathematical mind, but he also was a jack-of-all trades, a true Renaissance man. He could converse on just about any subject and before his physical disability, he was a physical laborer by choice as a painter, a gardener, a mechanic, a plumber, an electrician, a handyman and amazed others with his vast knowledge and abilities.
Greg was passionate and generous by nature: from his interests in sports, fast cars, stray animals – to his wife and children and his career. If you ever stopped by for a visit, you would have left with something, whether it be a koozie, a special beverage or a special memento or tidbit of information or advice that had a heartfelt meaning.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Caroline Mason; father, Robert Mason; and brother, Stephen Mason.
Greg leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Pamela Mason; son, Michael Mason; daughter, Madeline Mason-Stout and husband Adam; mother-in-law, Pat Kepka; sister-in-law, Denise Skyles; nieces, Britney Vega and Michelle Anderson.
The family will be holding a private ceremony to be scheduled at a later date.

Gregory was like a son to me. He was passionate in all of his actions and beliefs. He was totally committed to my daughter and my grandchildren. We will love him through eternity.

I recall so many sweet stories told to me by Pam about how much he loved and treasured her, their son, and their daughter. I heard how he struggled with his disease and rallied back strong and true to take care of his beloved family. I heard stories of how often Greg made everyone laugh and always feel welcome. I was only around him two times, but it was easy to see how Pam adored him.
I met Greg over 20 years ago, fixing the air conditioners at the house.

after work he always let you know how much he appreciate it.
Always offered something to drink and if you spent 30 minutes with Greg he will help you fix the world problems, even a suggestion how to get the Astros to win the world series.
I always enjoyed going to his house.
It will not be the same without his presence.
I will miss the long chats and the cold beer.
Having known Greg since Elementary School I have very fond memories of him. Two of them are at the forefront. The first is, growing up, Greg was always the tuffest kid on the football field. I remember playing against him in the Pasadena Parks & Recreation Football League. I played Defensive End for the Bears and Greg was a Running Back for the Wolverines. One Saturday morning Greg came through the line carrying the ball. We finally tackled him after a 5 yard gain. I remember vividly that his legs were still churning when he hit the ground. He was an athlete! The second is that Greg was always good to me as a kid. He was a year older than me and was one of my brother’s (Kevin) best friends. Kevin would continually include me in what he and his friends were doing. Greg never complained when Kevin brought me around. When I was in the 4th grade, Greg and Kevin (5th graders) let me help them take the chairs down from the Elementary School’s cafeteria tables before school started, each school day. I also remember Greg letting me go with he and Kevin to Astroworld. Greg was a good one and I’ll miss him.
