Holly ‘Renee’ Magee

Holly ‘Renee’ Magee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2022, at the age of 63.

She was born to Jack and June Magee on March 30, 1959 in Texas City. Renee and her seven siblings spent much of their youth in the swimming pool and by the age of 17 with her hard work, drive and determination gained her a spot on the 1976 US Olympic swim team and the World Games the following year.  Her extra-ordinary work ethic carried her through law school and a 25 + year career as a prosecutor and judge in the Harris County and Galveston County Criminal justice systems.  Around the courthouse she was known for her honesty, humility, and height; when you are 6’1” tall, most people look up to you. Renee was very humble and her only real source of pride was family, where she found her true strength. She loved being a grandmother above all other titles; claiming it was even better than being a mother.  She was known to all her children and particularly her grandchildren as “Momma Ne”.

Renee was preceded in death by her beloved ‘Daddy’ Jack and brother, Lonnie. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband, James Tucker; daughter, Angela Raimer and husband, David; son, Christopher Schirmer and wife, Jaci; mother, June; sisters, Missy Hendrickson and husband, B.J., Lise Belle and husband, Buddy and Angie Bailey and husband, Steve; brothers, Chat Magee and wife, Linda, John Magee and wife, Beverly and Ben Magee and wife, Corrine and five grandchildren; Ben, Elissa, Josey, Abby, and CJ. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and their children.

In her honor, there will be a visitation on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home Chapel in Dickinson, Texas. There will be a funeral service on Monday, July 18, 2022 at 10:00 am also at Crowder Funeral Home.

  1. My heartfelt condolences to Tucker, Angie, Christopher and to Renee’s family. I am blessed to have met Renee while in high school and continued as friends as adults. I have so many wonderful memories of Renee from High School swim meets, college graduation and heartfelt conversations. I think one of my favorite memories will be of Renee officiating our wedding. How wonderful to have a dear friend preside over one of the happiest days of my life. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love to you all.

  2. My Aunt Renee will be missed beyond measure and cherished in our hearts. I cannot tell you how many people I bragged to over the years about my Olympian-Judge aunt. She has always been an inspiration to so many in our family and beyond. When I think of her, and it will be often, I’ll think of her strength, drive, generosity, beauty, and loyalty.

  3. Renee was and is the pride of our family. Whether older or younger I think all of her siblings looked up to her. I know I did. Such a shining example of integrity and hard work. She was amazing at everything she did from being a grandmother, mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend to interior design, gardening, art and of course swimming. She was also a brilliant and intimidating presence in the court room. They sometimes referred to her as Honest Abe (Lincoln) at work and her conviction record proves that she was extremely well suited to putting away the “bad guys.” She could light up a room with her beautiful smile and blessed all those around her~but especially her family~with her immense generosity and unconditional love. You will be dearly missed sweet sister but also remembered with love and laughter every day going forward. 💕

  4. The Magee “clan,” as we often referred to ourselves, has lost a leader. Aunt Reneé was number 5 in her large group of siblings, but there was no doubt that she was an absolute standout amongst all of my accomplished aunts and uncles. She was our family “claim to fame,” and we were all so proud of her. Despite all her successes throughout her life, the thing that always stood out to me was her immense humility and generosity. Aunt Reneé worked very hard, but she also “played” hard. In other words, she knew how to enjoy herself, and one of her great joys was sharing the fruits of her labors with others. Aunt Reneé loved hosting the whole “clan” for Thanksgiving or Mother’s Day or really any activity. I can hear her sweet and calming voice reciting her famous lines: “You okay? Love you.” It was important for her to know that everyone was taken care of and having a good time. Her personal goals and achievements meant a lot to her, but it was always clear that family was above all other.

  5. Rene was an excellent and always fair ADA and then judge. It was always a pleasure seeing her in the courthouse and at Virgis parties because she was such a nice person. She was highly intelligent and could always figure out the right things to do in cases. She will be dearly missed.

  7. My thoughts and prayers go out to Renee’s family. She was a dear friend, colleague and great judge. I will never forget the 1st time we met about 10 years ago, at a Crimestoppers luncheon. Through many ups and downs over the past decade, she always persevered. She will be missed by many. May God comfort and give you strength, and may Renee’s memory be eternal.
