IRENE DILLON TAYLOR

IRENE DILLON TAYLORthoughtful, loving, friendly, feisty and a fighter!

Irene Dillon Taylor, 76, passed away peacefully at her home on July 1, 2022 with her daughters, Dawn and Donna, by her side. Supportive family and friends were praying nearby as she made her transition.

Irene was born in Greenwood, Mississippi on January 14, 1946, to Thomas Oscar and Mary Adelaide Dillon.  She was a Houston area resident for 71 years with the last 55 years spent raising her family in the Southbelt area.  She graduated from Jones High School in 1964. She was a proud Aggie and graduated from Texas A&M in 1968 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Microbiology. After working as a certified Medical Technologist, she was asked to open the current HCA Hospital in Clear Lake.  She subsequently served as the Laboratory Director for over 40 years and was applauded as a wonderful manager to many.

Irene was a devout Episcopalian and member of St. Andrews in Pearland since 1972.  She faithfully served her sisters in Christ through the Ruth Chapter of The Daughters of King and held the position of Treasurer for the DOK-Diocese of Texas from 2004-2007. Irene lived life fully giving to others unselfishly through charitable work at the church and Counseling Connections sharing her gifts of administration to better her community. She served as secretary for the church Vestry; she was also a Sunday greeter, and part of the prayer ministry, Family Promise and Christan Helping Hands teams.

“Gigi” loved spending time with her grandkids taking the girls to their homeschool museum outings and watching the boys play their sports. She was an avid reader, loved history and traveling with friends and family, especially in the fall for her Friday Night Lights with the Mitchell Crew.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Mervin Taylor. She is survived by her daughters:  Dawn Lawless and husband Jim of Pearland, Texas, and Donna Mitchell and husband J.R. of Edna, Texas. Irene had five wonderful grandchildren: Alyssa and Macyn Lawless, Tate and Bryant Mitchell, and Sarah Taylor Shipman. Irene is also survived by her brother Tom Dillon and his wife Laura and son Eric of Cumming, Georgia.

A Celebration of Irene’s Life will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Pearland, TX, on July 16th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Counseling Connections  https://counselingconnections.kindful.com/ or St.  Andrews https://pumpkinchurch.com/donate.html.
