Linda Lucille McFerran Goerland
Linda Lucille McFerran Goerland of Taylor Lake Village, TX passed away on May 1, 2022. She was born August 25, 1944 in Shreveport, LA, the oldest daughter of Raymon and LaVerne McFerran.
After graduating from Smiley High School in 1962, she attended the University of Texas and then the University of Houston where she completed a degree in Psychology in 1966. While there, she met the love of her life, Einar Goerland. They were married in 1966 and had 56 wonderful years together.
Upon graduation, Linda taught intermediate school science for three years and then retired to raise a family. Later she returned to education, teaching biology at Clear Lake High School and co-sponsoring the Earth Club until her retirement in 2001. The highlight of her teaching career was being named “Teacher of the Year” in 2000.
Linda was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and over the years was very active in a number of Clear Lake area organizations including the Bay Area Assistance League, the Dig ‘n Design Garden Club, Bay Area Museum Guild, the Bay Area Genealogical Society and Lunar Rendezvous.
Linda enjoyed traveling to all corners of the US and occasionally accompanied Einar on consulting trips to European countries including the Netherlands (where they lived for more than three years), Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Portugal, Spain, and two memorable trips to China.
Spending time with family and friends was very important to Linda and she enjoyed planning and hosting gatherings where she would entertain in a way that made everyone fells welcomed and loved. She also combined her love for family with her love for travel, and, along with Einar, planned multiple family trips which gave her children and grandchildren the opportunity to spend time together in some wonderful places. She was incredibly generous, creative, and kind. She never met a stranger, loved adventures, and always had a beautiful smile on her face.
Linda is survived by her husband Einar, as well as her children Einar II (Mary) Goerland, Karina Goerland Johnson, and Ehren (Leigh Anne) Goerland; and five grandchildren, Kara and Luke Johnson, Eleanor Goerland, and Kaitlyn and Brendan Goerland. She also leaves behind her brother Dennis McFerran, sister Celia (Ronald) Rutledge, multiple nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends.
A celebration of life service will be held for Linda on June 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at University Baptist Church in Clear Lake. Memorial donations may be made in Linda’s name to the Assistance League of the Bay Area or your favorite charity.
Einar, so sorry to hear about the loss of Linda. My deepest condolences to you and all of your family. Linda was a wonderful person and such a dear friend to both me and Gail. My prayers to you and your family for healing and comfort in these difficult times. I am only a short drive away so if you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to call me.
Einar, I’m confident that I speak for the membership of Dig ‘n Design Garden Club membership when I tell you how grateful we are for being able to visit with Linda at our plant sale on April 23rd. How kind of you to bring her so we could enjoy her smile and laughter once again. Thank you for giving us that opportunity.

What a lovely person she was, as I worked beside her in Assistance League of the Bay Area Resale shop. She always greeted me w a smile and made me feel like an old friend. I will never forget her beautiful smile as long as I live. I was privileged to know her and will miss her presence deeply. Her joy and enthusiasm for whatever was put in front of her was an inspiration. My heart goes out to her many family members in this time of loss. Know that she will not be forgotten.

Linda was a ray of sunshine in Assistance League. The moment she had her stroke and no longer could volunteer was a huge loss to our organization. We lost one of our most precious volunteers then and it feels like we lost her again upon her passing. Her presence in our individual lives was equally as special as her volunteer spirit. Can’t imagine the loss her family and close friends feel as well. Please accept my deepest condolences and always know how much she was loved by so many.
