George Tyrell Pipper
George Tyrell Pipper, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2022, at his home in League City, TX at the age of 87. He was born September 19, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to George Herman Pipper and Charlotte Wagner Pipper. He was an only child, raised to be independent and adventurous. George graduated in 1957 from University of Michigan with a degree in Engineering and spent 2 years in the Air Force. During his last year at UM, he met his beloved Betty from Michigan State on a blind date. The next 56 years took them around the world, where they lived and traveled overseas, and then across the states to whichever golf course they wanted to play. He started his career with Exxon in New York, and was then transferred to Hong Kong, where he fulfilled his dream of owning his dream sailboat, a 33’ Cheoy Lee that he named “Salem”. For years, the family sailed the South China Sea and explored the many remote uninhabited islands. He returned stateside with the boat and enjoyed another 20 years of sailing Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Once retired, George and Betty traded in the boat for a RV, and enjoyed the next 20 years driving “Betty’s Boat” to their favorite parks and whichever magnificent golf courses they found on their journeys.
George was preceded in death by the love of his life of 56 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Lassila, and his parents George and Charlotte. He is survived by son George E. Pipper and wife Tamra Pipper, his daughter Elisabeth (Lisa) Pipper and husband Kevin Stephenson. Grandchildren Lauren Howard and husband Mike, Amy Walter and husband Mark, George E. Pipper II, Kacey Stephenson, Kevin J. Stephenson II, and Benjamin Stephenson. Great grandchildren Alora Venable, Finn and Abigail Howard.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation and thanks to the wonderful team that cared for George until the end, Peter Kimwei, Josephine Penne, Shelly Watts, Bridget Jones and Caryn Hart.

Dear George and Lisa,
My condolences to you on the passing of your dad.
Enjoyed reading about his life and Aunt Betty.
It’s sad he had to suffer from Parkinson’s. We know all too well what that looks like.
Love Carol Baker (Lassila)
