Audrey Claire LaRose Chadwick
Audrey Claire LaRose Chadwick age 83, died January 20th, 2022 in Webster, Texas, after a 4 year battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Audrey was born on December 15, 1938. She was the third child of Mamie Boudreaux and Joseph Theophile LaRose. She grew up in Thibodeaux, Louisiana. Audrey is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joseph LaRose.
Audrey realized young that if she worked hard, she would gain rewards. She graduated high school a year early. She attended Charity Nursing School in New Orleans. Later she moved to Galveston, Texas. Audrey worked as a burn care nurse at Shiners Burn Hospital. In 1975, Audrey was given a fantastic chance to live and work overseas. The family moved to Livorno, Italy and lived on the Camp Darby military base for a time. There were many adventures to be had in Italy and, with Audrey’s planning and curiosity, many explorations of Italy were taken. In 1976, Audrey and family moved to Winchester, Virginia. The urge to travel came calling again and Audrey moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to be the Head Nurse of Pediatrics at Whittaker Hospital from 1978 to 1983. During this time, she taught herself Arabic to more effectively communicate with the Saudi patients. On May 1982, Audrey married the love of her life and her soul mate, Roger Chadwick in Preston, England. They have been happily married for almost 45 years. Audrey and Roger returned to Dickinson Texas in 1985. Audrey was not ready to retire and she returned to college to earn her Masters of Science from Texas Women’s College in 1988. She was a Nursing Professor at Galveston College and later at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, until she retired. Audrey had a passion for horticultural /community nursing. One of her greatest joys was working at the Moody Gardens in the Hope Horticulture therapy program. Audrey will be remembered for her kindness to friends and strangers, her love of gardening, and compassionate nursing. She gave wonderful garden parties (with required sunhats), sewed numerous baby blankets, and started many gardens. She daily professed her love for her English husband, Roger. She will be missed by many. She is survived by her adoring husband, G. Roger Chadwick of Dickinson, daughter Suzanne R. Hoffman, and sons, Doug E. Hoffman and Michael A. Hoffman, as well as grandsons Anthony J. Hoffman and Joshua J. Hoffman. The family is forever grateful for the loving care given to Audrey while at Orchard Park Memory Care. Their compassion and dedication to the people in their care went above and beyond as we all dealt with the confines and restrictions of Covid 19.
There will be a visitation at 2:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home, Dickinson, on February 26th, 2022 with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3:00pm.

The last time I saw Audrey I drove her home from the Retired Faculty luncheon. She had me wait while she picked a bouquet from her garden to say thanks. Rest In Peace, sweet Lady.

I am forever grateful that my Aunt Audrey helped foster my love for reading. When I was a child, she gave me books such as The Secret Garden, which was my favorite in grammar school. She always encouraged me in my studies and schoolwork. She sent beautiful cards containing the sweetest letters. My Aunt Audrey will be remembered for her gentle spirit and her kind heart.
I remember Mom reading The Secret Garden to me too! She read everyday up until her stroke. Mom was a nature teacher. Thanks and love Sharon.
I have many great memories of your mom and your family. She was beautiful! As I shared with you last time I saw you, I continue to ponder as to why I needed to wear shoes to open the refrigerator. I think of her often. Sending love and peace to you and your brothers.
Audrey and I worked together at UTMB School of Nursing. We traveled for the School’s WHO Center and always had fun. I primarily remember how much we laughed together whether we were drinking beer in Egypt or setting up for a clinic. My hope was to attend the service on Saturday but it turns out I unable to do so. I will always treasure Audrey’s memory and the many adventures we shared. Much love to her family,

I knew Audrey through the Galveston County Master Gardener Association. A visit to Audrey’s garden was a feast for a gardener’s eyes. I’d be willing to bet she is now making design changes to God’s garden.
I will always remember my Aunt Audrey fondly. From the family gatherings and holidays when she would bring my 3 older “cool” cousins who would travel from far away, to when she and Uncle Roger gladly hosted me while visiting Texas residency programs. Over the years, I’ve kept her gifts from her travels abroad, and they will forever remind me of her free spirit and sweet soul!

I was blessed by Audrey’s talents when she was a guest speaker for my third grade students at Parker Elementary in Galveston. Several times she presented an entertaining and educational presentation about herbs, with samples from her garden.
What an accomplished lady she was, and we are grateful she took time from her busy schedule to share her talents with us.
