Evelyn Lorene Kovalcik
Evelyn Lorene Kovalcik passed away January 20, 2022. She was born to Charles and Meta Ditner on January 2, 1922 in San Antonio, Texas. In her early teen years, her family moved to Houston, Texas. She graduated from Reagan High School in 1939 and entered business college the following fall. Her first job after business college was with Crane Packing Company.
In 1943, Evelyn married Luther Raymond Graham and following WW II, they settled into a little house in Bellaire, Texas. They had two children, Dianne Graham Hilkemeier and Don Graham. Along with raising her family, Evelyn was a working mom, avid reader, girl scout leader, church secretary and active member of Faith Lutheran Church.
After her children were grown and they had families of their own, Evelyn met a wonderful man named Emil E. Kovalcik. They married in 1981 and Evelyn’s family grew to now include Frances Brown and her family, John Kovalcik and his family, and Becky Werlla and her family. Evelyn and Emil loved to travel, attend dances, be with family and friends, and host family holiday dinners. Emil and Evelyn were married for 33 years.
In 2016, Evelyn moved from the home she’d lived in for over 60 years to be closer to her family. She moved to Friendswood, Texas and lived here till she passed away.
Evelyn was the glue that held the family together. She was a smart, gentle, kind soul full of love and grace. Her family was her pride and joy. One day recently, Evelyn said, “When the good Lord takes me, you just say THANK YOU!” We say THANK YOU everyday and are so grateful that we had her in our lives for all these years. Evelyn is survived by 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. We know Evelyn has been reunited with her parents, brother, and Emil. We love you and miss you Mother, Mom, Evelyn, Grandma, Great Grandma.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Lutheran World Relief or a charity of your choice in honor of Evelyn L. Kovalcik.
