Jesse Hershel Farley (83) passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, Houston, Texas after a battle with congestive heart failure. He was born in Town Creek, Alabama on October 30, 1938 to William Anderson Farley and Myrtle Virginia Beavers. He graduated from Hatton High School (The Hornets) active in agriculture and woodworking and was the sports editor for his yearbook. After graduation, he worked in the construction industry. He relocated to Houston in the 1980s and became employed by Houston Lighting and Power (HL&P) as the manager of their woodworking shop.  He took an early retirement to work in the appliance industry (Bayne Appliance) as a custom install carpenter. Eventually, he opened his own business, Farley Appliance, in League City. He operated the business for almost 20 years before retiring.

Jesse’s paternal grandmother, Rosa Crosswhite, was a full-blooded Native Cherokee. She did not register with the tribe before her death. Jesse also had not registered, but is authentically 25% Cherokee. A genealogy search shows Rosa is the daughter of Henry George Crosswhite (1864) and Alice Elizabeth Hood (1870). This was exciting and new information for the family.

Jesse was a life-long member of the Hatton Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the Scottish Rite. In addition to woodworking, Jesse got his certificate in upholstery so he could refinish furniture pieces. He also built custom furniture and wooden items for customers. His garage was his work area. In addition to carpentry, his interests included politics and sports.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Farley, Jr. and grandson Colin Farley. He is survived by his sisters Virginia Lovelady, Thelma Jean Cagle, and Melba Kerby, his wife Patricia, sons Ferrell Farley (Rhonda) and Jeffrey Farley (Melody), daughter Kristen Farley, sister-in-law Donna Babcock (Tim), brothers-in-law David Gallagher (Susan) and Chuck Gallagher (Pam), and his grandchildren: Merri Elizabeth Bond (Zachary), Nicolas Farley (Savana), Brianna Moultrie (Caleb), Nathan Farley (Amanda), and Landon Farley. There are also several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Jesse loved to talk to people, made friends easily and was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 2, from 6-8pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, Texas with a funeral service Monday, January 3, at 11am. His body will be flown to Alabama for a second service with burial at Blackground Cemetery in Town Creek.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to a favorite charity.
