Edwin Fred Zimmerman (Pete)
Edwin Fred Zimmerman (Pete), of La Marque, passed away on December 11, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 99 years old. Pete was the son of Frank and Louise Zimmerman of Houston. He was born in Houston, Texas on July 21, 1922. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in February 1942; and he unlisted in the Coastal Marines, a division of the U.S. Navy, in Galveston.
After the war, Pete worked as a sign painter for Pan American Oil, later known as Amoco Oil Company. He retired in 1976 to his farm in Seguin, Texas. There, Pete and his wife, Naomi raised cattle and catfish. He expanded his cattle operation with farms in Luling and String Prairie, Texas.
From 1979 to 1993, Pete and Naomi owned and operated the Bavarian Village, a German beer garden and restaurant in New Braunfels, Texas.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi (Huddleston). He is survived by two sons, Fred, Jr, (Barbara) of Winedale, Texas and Frank (Patti) of Texas City. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Trey (Valarie), Michael (Michelle), Bo, Noal, and Barbara Goodwin (Vance) and numerous great grandchildren.
Pete is mourned by his 20 year dance partner, Nancy Vidas of Palmyra, Wisconsin, formerly of Galveston.
His wishes were to be cremated (handled by Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque) and his ashes scattered on the grave of Naomi. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Elks Lodge of Galveston, Texas.
We the friends and acquaintances of Pete have lost a unique gem on this planet we call earth. He has been embraced by each of us. Heavenly Father embrace Pete in the heavenly realm.
