Deena Marie Hampton
Beloved sister and aunt, Deena Marie Hampton, age 74, tragically passed away in an automobile accident on April 1, 2021. Deena was born in Lubbock, Texas, December 23, 1946, the first child of John Deen Hampton and Mary Lou Owen Hampton.
Deena was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary. She is survived by her sister, Carla Hampton Bakri and her husband, Mahmoud “Mac” Bakri; nephew Tarik Bakri, his wife, Stacy, and their sons Travis and Brady; and niece Deena Shareen Bakri. She is also survived by her brother, Kerry Wade Hampton; niece Brittany Stewart and her son Logan; and niece Kasi Hampton.
The daughter of a career United States Air Force officer, Deena grew up living and traveling throughout the United States, Japan, and Europe, especially Great Britain. Deena took great pride in being an Air Force “brat” and cherished those years. Eventually, after her father’s retirement from the Air Force, Deena moved with her parents from Austin, Texas to the San Joaquin Valley in California, which remained home for about 30 years.
Deena worked for a time as a nurse’s aide, followed by a stint as a dispatcher for the Forest Service in California, but ultimately, she chose a career at AT&T as a long-distance operator and union rep. Her job with AT&T eventually brought her back to Texas, where she then retired to Waco and finally Houston.
Deena was vivacious, outgoing, and made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed music, dancing, and was an avid reader. She was a talented seamstress and artist, as well, and loved making things for her friends and family. Although Deena did also struggle to deal with many hardships in her life, she was a devout Christian and always held on to her strong faith in the Lord. She loved her family and friends with all of her being, and she was deeply loved in return.
Her family takes comfort now in knowing Deena is at peace and surrounded by her loved ones who passed before her.
In accordance with her wishes, Deena was cremated. A memorial service will be held to honor and celebrate her on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at 1:30pm, at Crowder Funeral Home, 111 E Medical Center Blvd, Webster, Texas 77598. Deena’s family welcomes all who are able to join but also understands circumstances may prevent attendance. Therefore, a livestream of the service will be available for viewing.
Deena was my cousin from my mother’s side of the family and was much older than me but as an adult I had the privilege of getting to know her. She had a great sense of humor, was devoted to her parents and her family and we enjoyed her many stories about her life. I will miss her but I know she is in Heaven with her loved ones and her Lord Jesus Christ. May she rest in peace.

So sorry for your loss. She was always so very kind to me and I enjoyed her stories. Just read the obit and what a wonderful life she was blessed with. I wish I had heard more of her life’s story. Thank you for sharing that. Wish I could be at her memorial to honor her but know each time I pass her house I will think of her.
Loved reuniting at the reunions with all of you. Having worked in the telephone industry for years we both had many stories to share and laugh about. She was a joy to spend time with. We will miss her here on earth, but once she saw her Heavenly Father there’s no turning back. In His loving arms she is whole again. You are in my prayers as you go through this painful time. May Angels surround and comfort you daily. Love always!
