Magdy Kotb
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Magdy Kotb, 75, of Nassau Bay, Texas. Magdy lived a long, beautiful life, but alas his loving heart beat for the last time on March 22, 2021 after living with heart disease for many years.
Magdy emigrated from his beloved Egypt in 1980 with his wife, Sonia and two daughters, Yasmine and Miral. Magdy lived every day fully and with genuine joy. He loved to laugh, dance, travel, chase sunsets, and watch soccer with Sonia. His energetic personality helped foster a community for 21 years at Mediterraneo Market & Café, the successful restaurant that he and Sonia own and operate. His generosity and focus on community extended to his decades-long volunteer work with Friends of Egyptian Children with Cancer, Egyptian American Society, Egyptian Festival, Egyptian Folkloric Dance Societies and The South Texas Soccer Referees Association.
Magdy is survived by his wife, Sonia Kotb, and their children, Yasmine Kotb and Miral Kotb.
A visitation and memorial service will be at Crowder Funeral Home 111 East Medical Center Boulevard, Webster, Texas, on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 5pm to 8pm. The memorial service will be from 6pm – 7pm. Livestream of the service will be available at https://youtu.be/ivvnrn6RMJU.
Salat al-Janazah will be held the following morning outside of Masjid Hamza Funeral Home 6233 Tres Lagunas Drive, Houston, Texas, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 11am.
The burial will follow at Mt Olivet Cemetery 7801 Gulf Freeway, Dickinson, Texas, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 2pm.
A reception to celebrate Magdy’s life will follow the burial on Tuesday, April 6th from 4pm to 7pm. Location to be determined.
For everyone’s safety, the family requests that if you exhibit any of the following symptoms please protect yourself and others by joining us for the livestream of the memorial service:
- A fever over 100 degrees
- A cough or sore throat
- Shortness of breath
- Contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case within the past 14 days.

Magdy was a good friend and mentor to me. His generosity and kindness was felt the first time I met him. I remember my first game I refereed with him in Galveston and how he taught me to leave the area as soon as the game was over, which I still remember to this day. He will be greatly missed. May the peace of God that passes all understanding comfort your hearts!

Magdy was happy and friendly with everyone he met. He had a heart for others that really shined when he gave over and beyond support to the City of Nassau Bay after major events like Hurricane Ike.
We loved and love the comfortable and delicious restaurant he provided for Nassau Bay. We always enjoyed seeing his smiling face when we came. He will be deeply missed by us and the community.
It is with great sadness that we heard of Magdy’s passing. We frequented the Cafe for years and always enjoyed Magdy’s welcoming smile and warmth.
May his memory be for a blessing and may time ease your pain.
