William Lawrence Carr, Jr

William Lawrence Carr, Jr, “Billy”, passed away on March 4, 2021, at the age of 41. He is survived by his mother Betty Carr, father Bill Carr, sister Jennifer Carr Ulmer, brothers Benjamin Carr and Zachary Carr, sister in law Diana Carr, nephews Austin Ulmer and August Hanson, and nieces Autumn Hanson, Claire Hanson, and Catherine Carr.

Billy was born in Jacksonville, FL on June 11, 1979. His family moved to TX in December 1980. They lived in Katy, TX from 1980 to 2000 when they moved to League City, TX. Billy is a 1997 graduate of Katy High School.

Billy grew up playing sports starting with T-ball at the age 5. He played little league baseball and football throughout his youth. When he got into junior high, he played football for the West Memorial Jaguars and continued playing little league baseball. Throughout his high school years, he played football and baseball for Katy High School (Go Tigers!). Sports were an important part of his life. He worked at Timber Creek Golf Club in Friendswood, TX for more than 10 years. He loved the game of golf and could talk your ear off about the players, the techniques, the courses, anything and everything to do with golf.

While growing up, you could find Billy riding his bike around the neighborhood and playing with his friends. They started a band when they were in elementary school and even recorded a video. Billy went through a skater phase where he was attached to a skateboard at all times. He often played catch with his father and siblings or basketball with the neighborhood kids. Billy was full of life, popular among his peers and happy.

Unfortunately, in his adult years, Billy suffered from depression and mental health issues. After a very long battle in which he could not find peace, the pain became unbearable and he took his life. Billy’s death does not define his legacy. He had talents, made contributions, and touched others’ lives in meaningful ways. He was and still is deeply loved. We will cherish his memory.

A memorial service will be held at Crowder Funeral home at 1645 E Main St, League City, TX 77573 on Saturday, March 13th at 11 AM followed by a reception at Red River BBQ in League City. Billy’s favorite colors were hunter green and navy blue. Please feel free to dress casually and wear his favorite colors. For those unable to attend in person, the services will be lived streamed at:

  8. Billy Carr was my best friend. One time he let me borrow his football pads so I could be a football playing zombie for Halloween. What a dude! This is terrible news and I wish I could have reconnected with my old friend. I’ll never forget playing Wipeout at West Memorial Elementary talent show with Billy on keyboard. All the love to my Katy friends and Billy’s family.

  10. Billy was a light in my life through high school. He was always smiling and I feel like I can see and hear his laugh (more of a giggle) in my mind. So many of my memories and all the fun we had in those years include Billy. Sending so much love to his family and prayers for peace and comfort.

  11. I first met Billy in 3rd grade, he was one of the first kids to welcome me to my new school. I think my first test to see if we would be friends was by a game of wall ball. He would tease me about being so tall and I would tease him about being so short. You could usually find us battling it out on the tether ball pole most afternoons at recess. When we were on the safety patrol together in 5th grade he would call me captain and that seemed to stick through high school. He remained a constant friend through the years and was always there with a mischievous grin or chuckle when needed. I wish I could have been there after high school years to return the favor when Billy needed it most. My heartfelt prayers to his family and everyone that is grieving his loss. May he now rest and have some peace.

  13. Billy Carr. Wow! Among a few groups of kids that passed through our back door
on Pine Cone in Katy. Always welcome in our home,he will be most remembered for that million dollar smile & never being a trouble maker. As a mom, that impressed me. I am saddened to hear of the struggles he must have gone through. So many of us have. It gives me great peace to know that he has reached his homeward destination back into the loving arms of our almighty Father God. Welcome home, sweet Billy. We look forward to seeing you again.

  14. I am deeply sorry and saddened to hear of Billy’s passing. My heart aches for him, his family and loved ones.

Billy and I met freshman year in high school and he quickly became a close friend. He had a natural charm and easygoing personality that was very uniquely Billy and made it easy for him to be friends with everyone. Then there was his trademark smile that always made others smile. (It makes me smile right now just thinking about it). I have many great memories with him that I will hold dear. He was so much fun, happy and kind hearted – a great guy all around – and that’s the way I will always remember him.

I hope family and loved ones are comforted knowing he did make a true, wonderful, lasting impact on many people, like me. Rest in Peace, my friend. Sending love to you all.

  18. We have known Billy since elementary school when he became good friends with our daughter, Brooke. Through the years Billy and other friends would frequent our home. I always loved having all of this group of kids come for a visit. I will always remember this handsome young man and his beautiful smile. We are so saddened by Billy’s struggles as he became an adult. There are no words over this tragic loss. May all the memories ease the sadness of his family and friends.

  20. Billy, you’re the second wonderful friend I’ve had to say goodbye to in 1 week for the same reason. My heart hurts knowing that you’re gone. I remember elementary school with you where you told me how you got your raspy voice, drink products you shouldn’t drink. Lol. Always with those skater bangs flipping with your skateboard! You had a great life. You will forever be missed.
