Marjorie Dell Barber

Marjorie “Meme” Dell Barber (nee Campbell) was called home on Friday, January 29, 2021 at the age of 77.  She was born in Many, LA on September 26, 1943.  She was married in 1963 and spent most of her life in the Houston area.

Marjorie was always a very hardworking woman. However, in the early 1980’s she found her passion.  “Ms. Margie” began working at La Petite Academy and worked her way up to Director of the school.  She delighted in taking care of and educating the children that came into her life.  After 18 years she decided to venture out and opened Kids Depot.  So many children in the Heights and Oak Forest area came under her care.  She retired leaving behind well-educated children and thoroughly trained staff.

She also took very good care of all of her family members.  She loved her daughters and was elated when she became a grandmother.  All of her grandchildren were taught by their Meme.  She could not have been more proud of the accomplishments from all of her family.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, George and Ledell Campbell, her brother George “Buddy” Campbell and brother Larry Campbell.

She is survived by daughter Cynthia “Renee” Lute and husband Dan Lute of Alvin, TX, daughter Sheila “Diane” Davis and husband John Davis of Richmond, TX, daughter Charlotte Ann Barber of Spring, TX, daughter Christina Lynn Burdette and husband Greyson Burdette of San Leon, TX,  grandchildren Kristen, Jared, Adam, Ross and Rachel, sister Myrtle Frisby of Converse, LA, brother Joe Campbell of Channelview TX, brother Thomas Campbell of Hammond, LA and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, March 6, 2021 at All Saints Catholic Church in Houston, TX.  A Celebration of Life and fellowship will follow at 201 W. 15th St., Houston, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to The Lewy Body Society.

  1. This goes out to her family: she was “Meme” to all of us. She had such a beautiful soul and was always ready to help. She was always so kind to me whenever I had a chance to visit with her, giving me words of wisdom and advice. I believe she’s up there with the Father right now, having a good ‘ol time and enjoying herself immensely. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t feel the pain of missing her and wishing that she didn’t have to go. I pray for the whole family that God will bring peace and comfort to each and every one of you.

Rest in Peace, Meme. Your presence in this world made the light shine even brighter and you will be terribly missed!

  2. So sorry for your loss . Didn’t know her that well but if she was anything like her sister Myrtle Frisby she must have been a wonderful person. Praying for peace and comfort in the days to come .
