Sharon Lee McCreery
Sharon Lee McCreery, 76, of Friendswood, TX passed away on November 28, 2020 with family by her side. Sharon was born July 21, 1944 in Middletown, NY. Sharon obtained an Associate’s Degree and worked in the Information Technology (IT) profession for almost 30 years.
Sharon took a hiatus from IT at age 34 and joined the U.S. Army where she served 3 years at Fort Carson, CO. After an honorable discharge, Sharon remained in Colorado where she worked as a computer programmer/analyst for the U.S. Olympic Training Center (OTC). A highlight of Sharon’s career; she was nominated by her colleagues at the OTC to carry the Olympic torch as it passed through Colorado Springs on its way to the games in Salt Lake City. Four years later, Sharon traveled to Italy where she managed the computer operations for the 2006 Olympics. Shortly after her return from abroad, Sharon left the IT world and became a Chaplain for the Salvation Army where she ministered and served the underprivileged; bringing unparalleled joy to her life. Sharon retired in 2011 and moved to Texas to be closer to her family, the ocean, and a warmer climate. Sharon remained a devote Christian, teaching adult Sunday school, leading prayer groups, always inspiring others with the Lord’s word.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents John McCreery and Helen Owen; brothers, Edwin and Tony Owen. She leaves to cherish her lifetime of memories her two daughters, Donna Anderson, husband Buddy, and Diane Lekarczyk, seven grandchildren, Taren Jay and husband Byron, Kyle Mathis, wife Rachel, Lana Jennings, Mitchell Lekarczyk, Lynsie Anderson, Michael Lekarczyk, Christopher Anderson, three great grandchildren Zakk, James, Haley, sisters, Candy Owen and husband Dave, Sheila Moran and husband John, brother, Mick Owen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sharon was a wonderful friend, mentor, sister, and mother. Her infectious smile and warm and compassionate ways will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held December 17, 2020 at 1:30 CT at the Friendswood Friends Church, 502 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 and virtually online at https://friendswoodfriends.org . On the morning of the Service, a link at the top of the webpage will take you to the Service livestream. Flowers may be sent to the church on December 17 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. or in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Due to Covid 19, all visitors must wear a mask and maintain a social distance of six feet from attendees while attending the Church Service.
