Dennis Walter Rankin
Dennis Walter Rankin, 55, was born on November 18, 1964 in Houston, Texas to the proud parents of Bob and Norma Rankin. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, in Bacliff, Texas on October 25, 2020. He had COPD for many years and it made life, at the end, very difficult. He will be deeply missed, but knowing that he is at peace and not suffering will help all of his family and friends carry on.
Dennis had a great sense of humor. There was always a smile on his face as he waited to see your response to his one-liners, which were guaranteed to make you laugh. He always had a hug for his mom and sisters and a strong handshake for his dad and brothers. He grew up with and was loved by his cousins. Dennis was a hard worker from a young age and began a career selling new and used cars. He eventually moved over to the management side of the business and worked for some of the top dealerships in Houston.
Dennis had a love of all sports, especially golf, which he played for many years. He loved music and was especially fond of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Eddie Arnold and Jim Croce and loved to sing those songs to his mother and sisters, in particular. He was an excellent chef who enjoyed cooking many delicious meals for friends and family. Dennis loved his country and had strong conservative values.
He is survived by his parents, Bob and Norma Rankin and his seven siblings, Bill Rankin(Lynne), Mike Rankin(Beverly), Kathy Dorris(Terry), Karen Lally(Bob), John Rankin, Kay Rankin(David Murrah) and Gary Rankin, as well as, 8 nieces and nephews, 5 great nieces and nephews, many cousins and his Aunt Sharon and Uncle Paul.
Dennis was laid to rest in a graveside service at Forest Park Cemetery on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 surrounded by his family. Father Wencil of St. Paul Catholic Church, presided over the service. After a Covid-19 vaccine is widely available, a Memorial Mass will be held for all family and friends at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Houston. A celebration of his life will immediately follow.
