Natalia Nikolayevna Lyashman
Natalia Nikolayevna Lyashman died Saturday, 16 May 2020, at her home in Webster, Texas, from health complications.
She is survived by her daughter, Veronika, son-in-law, Skip, and by two grandchildren, Kolya and Viviana.
Natalia was born to Vera Ivanovna Ivanova and Nikolai Nikolayevich Ivanov in 1945 in Leningrad (St Petersburg), Russia. She lived in Estonia, Finland, and then in Severodvinsk, Russia, in her childhood and youth and later returned to Leningrad to earn a degree in geography at the Leningrad State University. After teaching geography, she became an economist and later an accountant. Upon retiring, she moved to Webster, Texas, to be near her daughter and grandchildren.
She was a great lover of art, ballet, great literature and history. Being a geographer, she had a passion for world travel, visiting over twenty countries.
After moving to Texas she fell in love with it – its climate, culture and people. Houston became her second home. All of her life she lived near a coast, so Galveston became her favorite place.
She loved animals, especially cats (she was a Cat Lady, but not a Crazy Cat Lady), and enjoyed being in nature, taking walks through different parks in the Clear Lake area. Her balcony looked over a bayou, where she enjoyed watching ducks and ducklings, herons, nutria, opossums, turtles, and the occasional alligator.
She stayed active and practiced tai chi along with her grandson.
She was a devout believer of the Russian Orthodox Christian faith. Due to the pandemic the memorial service has been postponed. A private blessing of the body by a Russian Orthodox priest was held.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Friends of League City Animal Shelter, the organization that helps homeless and abandoned animals; this is where Natalia adopted her beloved and faithful feline companion, Pierre.

Natalia Nikolayevna was a really bright, good-natured, shining lady. She loved the life in all its aspects. We are shocked at her sudden passing. We love. We remember.
Having knowing her for only a short time I grew to respect and care for her. She exhibited a kindness toward others in her life. She was an animal lover and cared for them greatly. She was fond of arts and music. She was a good friend. My heart goes out to her and her loved ones. May Her Rest In Peace.
Natasha, you left us so unexpectedly. But you always witnessed in our hearts.God bless your soul.
What a gift to have your mother/grandmother live just across the road for several years. Those memories enabled by that closeness will be priceless. It is my fondest wish that I will have that same opportunity with my children. Nowhere else would she have had a happier life. Our hearts are with the whole family. We love you all.
Natasha was a great friend, she always helped with open-hearted advice. Her life was purposeful, honest and right. She loved life, her children and was especially her grandchildren, for whom she gave all of herself. Bright memory to her. She will live in our hearts for a long time.
The first time I met Natalia Nikolayevna, she was full of energy, with lots of plans for life. She was in love with Texas, opposing the frigid winter of St. Petersburg. She was ready to learn everything she could to get in with the culture. It’s very saddening to have lost such a great life. If only she lived until the last moment possible. Глубокие соболезнования Веронике – потеря родителей всегда ужасное состояние… Надеюсь, Коля и Вивианна переживут этот непростой период и в их сердце останутся только самые светлые воспоминания о бабушке.

Natalia was a wonderful lady and a gentle soul. She will be greatly missed. My wife and I are very saddened. May her memory be eternal.
We, a group of Natasha’s Russian-speaking friends, are so saddened to hear about her sudden passing. She was part of our get-togethers, and participated in our conversations, sharing her knowledge about many different subjects. It’s hard to believe she’s gone.
We extend our deepest sympathies to her family during this period of mourning. May she rest in peace.
I am truly shocked at Natalias’ passing. She was so young and vibrant! Her pride was abundant when she would bring her grandchildren to St.John Greek Church which she attended every Sunday. She was a dedicated volunteer at every Clear Lake Greek Festival at the entrance gate. We will all miss her may her memory be eternal🙏
She was a kind soul. Even though she spoke little English and we spoke no Russian, she sweet eyes and smile said everything. She helped out our small church often.
We will miss her greatly.
