Steven Wade Hoyland Sr.
Steven Wade Hoyland, Sr. was born July 27th, 1952, in Galveston County, Texas. He lived in Sunny San Leon for the past 20 years. He passed away the evening of May 5th, 2020 after a long battle with congestive heart failure, diabetes, and kidney failure.
He loved his community and everyone who lived here and contributed in many ways. He founded The SOBs and The Seabreeze News. He loved playing his squeeze box and singing with his buddies. He also enjoyed going out on the bay in the ole john boat and catching lots of trout and redfish.
He was married to Kim Theresa Hoyland. He had two sons, Steven Wade Hoyland, Jr. and Jeffery Beaux Hoyland. He left behind his sister, Karen Hoyland, and a brother Gerald Hoyland. He was preceded to heaven by his brother, Patrick Hoyland, who left us August 23rd, 2019. He also left behind 8 grandchildren, Kelci Emilia Hoyland, Zoie Rae Hoyland, Steven Wade “3” Hoyland, Jacob McCaughey, Olivia Agruso, Mason Holman, Catherine Holman, Wyatt Holman.
He had some remarkably close friends including Joe Manchaca, Lonnie Turnbough, Justin Holman, Robbie Akes, Jeff Adams, Louis the barber, Jaton Liner, Mary Young, The Rubber Knife Gang, and many more “ole buddies” as he would say.
Services will be held Saturday, May 9th, at 2:00 p.m. at the San Leon Cemetery on Bayshore Drive. If you wish to make a donation in Steve’s honor, please consider the SOB building fund at The Ace Hardware in Bacliff. In keeping with his never-ending support of this community, if you would like to have flowers delivered it was his wish to please use Robins’s Flowers in San Leon.
The world lost a wonderful singer, songwriter, guitar player, entertainer, and friend! I will miss hearing him play and sing, and I will miss getting to play and sing with him. My condolences to his family.
I feel like I knew him through just reading The Seabreeze. He always made me laugh and I truely enjoyed reading every word he wrote. The paper will never be the same! Love, Prayers & Support to all of his family in friends! You are missed by those who never even had the honor of personally meeting you!
My condolences to Steve’s family & friends. I greatly enjoyed reading The Seabreeze News on a regular basis & would be disappointed if the news rack was empty! I remember the time it was quoted on National late night tv several years ago! (I think it was The Late Show w/David Letterman, but it might have been ‘Late Night’ with Conan O’Brian.) I also remember driving through San Leon one time & seeing the sign for the site for the future ‘Steve’s School for Wives’. 🙂 I can only hope that the current Seabreeze staff will make every effort to keep it just as funny an informative as it was in Steve’s time.
Recently moved to Kemah and picked up The Sea Breeze November 4th issue and laughed uncontrollably at HOW TO HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND MERRY CHRISTMAS (front page) article. My condolences to the Hoyland family.
