Barry Lynn Schlueter
Barry Lynn Schlueter was born May 8, 1945, to Albert and Willie Schlueter. He went to his final resting place on June 22, 2014. He leaves behind his loving wife of almost 47 years, Susan Wolfe Schlueter, his daughter Shelley Schlueter, Shelley’s husband Mark Poole, his granddaughter Selena Poole, his sister Carol Schlueter and her partner Lynn Hourguettes. Barry was science department chair of Clear Lake Intermediate for almost 30 years. He hybridized daylilies, roses and his passion – hibiscus. He was the leading hibiscus hybridizer in the world. He will be greatly missed, both personally and professionally. A memorial service will be held at Bay Area Unitarian Universalist Church on Thursday, June 26, at 11:00.
Dearest Susan and Shelley,
My sincere condolences on the passing of Barry. I think of him often, and use him as an example of what a good boss and person should be.
His work ethic was second to none, and his appreciation of beauty and nature was genuine and infectious.
I am grateful to have had the pleasure of working for and with him.
You will be missed. Your work will live on with your beautiful blooms you created and your teachings to many.
Barry left an imprint on this world.
Barry was a great department head. I really enjoyed the six years I taught in his department. So sorry Sue for your loss. Your family will be in my prayers.

I cannot tell you how sorry I am to hear about Barry. I know what it’s like to have that huge hole in your heart. I will be praying for peace and strength for for you, Shelley and the rest of your family. I’m available if you ever need to talk to someone who has been in your shoes.
Barry was such an important part of who I became as a teacher. I told that to every student I ever taught. He gave so much to so many people. The beauty of the hibiscuses he hybridized will be a lasting legacy.

I’m sorry to hear about Barry’s passing. He was a very dedicated and loved teacher. I recall hearing the kids saying how much they enjoyed being in his class. That’s a true testament not only of his great teaching skills, but also for his love of teaching and kids.

I have thought of Barry and you many times since I taught at Clear Lake Intermediate with Barry. I always counted him among my good friends. I was so sorry to hear of his passing.

My husband, Barry, and I read the obit in today’s paper and were saddened by the news. We knew him briefly in the hibiscus world, were inspired and encouraged by his work. He leaves a true legacy, both personally and professionally.
