Fred Stebbins was called home to his Father’s House the morning of May 22, 2014. Born in Charlotte, Michigan August 5, 1923 to Lester and Carrie Stebbins, he was predeceased by brothers Richard, Don and Lauren Stebbins. His is survived by sisters Dorothy Gillis and Pauline Stebbins as well as brother, Ivan Stebbins and his wife Henrietta. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 64 years and their children, Cindy Stebbins, Sharon Stebbins, Col. Byron Stebbins USMC (retired) and wife Ann, Maj. Lee Stebbins USMC (retired) and wife Allyson, and Lori Demand and husband Jim; as well as grandchildren Ashleigh, Christopher, Travis and Elyssa Stebbins; and Austin and Audrey Demand. As a part of the greatest generation Fred served in the United States Air Force and Navy. After marrying his sweetheart Joyce in 1950 they moved to Texas where he worked as an engineer at NASA during the glory years of the Gemini and Apollo missions. Along the way Fred earned his PhD at Texas A&M and the family has continued in that proud Aggie tradition with the exception of a friendly rivalry with LSU. Visitation will be held at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson on May 27 from 5 to 7 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated May 28 at 11 AM at Shrine of the True Cross with reception to follow.
