Jasper Lee Fegette
Jasper Lee Fegette, 95, of Dickinson, a longtime resident of Good Springs, TX, peacefully passed away December 11, 2018. Lee was born January 10, 1923, to Claudine Graham Fegette and Jasper Lee Fegette in Gatesville, TX. Lee graduated from Texas City. Being a part of The Greatest Generation, he proudly served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps for 3-1/2 years in England during World War II. Following his retirement from American Oil as a machinist, he moved to East Texas and farmed his own land. He was a loyal member of the Good Springs United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church in Dickinson. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Helen Elizabeth Hewitt Fegette, a son Randon Lee Fegette, and a sister Pearl Gummelt.
Lee leaves behind to cherish his memory daughters Claudia Jean McCoy and husband Michael, Marcia Louise Henry and husband Cecil, Denice Renee Tucker and husband Rodney, and son Steven Allen Fegette; grandchildren Brad Henry and wife Kelly, Blake Henry and wife Isabela, Jason Pate and wife Terra, Clayton Tucker, Rodney Tucker, and Amber Vera and husband Leo; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Lee was raised by Dick and Dean Hunter his senior year in high school. He grew to love this family as much as his own. From this extended family he leaves behind, Dick Hunter, Shirley Hasson and husband Art, Wayne Camp, and Jeanine Gainer along with their extended family.
Lee, Pops, Grandpa, many of the names he was fondly called, was a family man who had great faith in God. He loved gathering all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at his farm for a weekend of good food, playing dominos, riding four wheelers, and getting everyone to help maintain the farm. He loved woodworking, canning jelly, fishing in his lake, watching football, and beating all his family members at 84. He taught his family what being a family really means, how to be a faithful servant, and how to work hard for what you want to achieve in life. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him, but he is now at peace and reunited with those that have gone before him, especially his soul mate Helen Fegette.
Please join the family in honoring Lee; a Visitation will be held at 10:00 am with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, Dickinson, TX. Reverend Jack Matkin officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you kindly make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org or Goodsprings UMC Henderson; 8659 County Road 454 S, Henderson, TX 75654-9557 in Jasper Lee Fegette’s name.
I came into the family 20 years ago and loved Lee from day one. I loved the way he loved his wife and family and loved his wonderful sense of humor. I will miss him greatly but know that he is square dancing with Helen in heaven.
I grew up with Steve and Marcia. Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your Father, Grandfather and the Patriarch of your family. Linda & I pray that the memories of your father/grandfather and the love of family surround you and give you strength in the days ahead. God Bless You.
Rest In Peace Lee. You will be missed by so many loved ones here on Earth. All know and celebrate your journey to be with those whom you loved that left before you. I pray for your family and friends that will miss you forever. I pray for their comfort as they go through this glorious season without you by their side. God Bless Lee’s family. Amen 🙏
We love you and will miss you dearly Grandpa 💕
I am grateful to have shared a church, a community, and special friendship with Lee. He made the second part of the great commandment— “love your neighbor as yourself”, very easy to follow. Lee had a lot of love for God, his family, his country, and lots of folks just like us. I hope God didn’t break the mold when He made Lee, we need men and women just like him more than ever today. I will miss him very much.
Lee and Helen were dear people. I met them in the Red’s Rompers square dance
club in Henderson Texas where I lived at the time. When Lee had health problems
Helen took care of him and as soon as he healed up Helen became ill and
Lee faithfully took care of her.
During square dance lessons I wasn’t catching on very quickly and seriously thought
about quitting, but Lee and Helen encouraged me and I’m still dancing 29 years
later.
I also remember the get togethers at their “underground” house. Never been in one
until then. Cows grazing on the roof, 72 degrees inside year round.Neat!
Lee was a very serious, enthusiastic and fine dancer. God bless his memory.
We danced with Lee and Helen for many years. It was a delight and pleasure to know them both. I agree that he is now at peace that he is back with Helen. Prayers and blessings to the family.
Uncle Lee and Aunt Helen were two of my very favorite family members. I have always counted my blessings for them in my life and that they thought enough of my family to travel to Oklahoma and Florida to visit us. When the movie “The Notebook” came out, I cried my eyes out knowing this was the kind of love Uncle Lee showed his precious wife, Helen. Because I serve the same Savior that Uncle Lee knew and served, I know that I will see this precious Uncle when I leave this world also. I rejoice that he is with Aunt Helen once again. To live is Christ, to die is gain!
Such a kind and gentle soul. We will miss seeing his smile around town. A great role model to us all and head of a beautiful family.
We will miss you Uncle Lee! Such a kind and caring man! Give Mimi big hugs in heaven from us!
So sad to hear of Uncle Lee’s passing. He was always a kind and gentle soul. Sending my love, thoughts, and prayers.
Your father was a wonderful father, husband and grandfather. He was always a joy to be around. His life is an inspiration! His dedication to his wife was awe inspiring. You are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful father
My deepest sympathy to the family. My parents Esther & Steve Yancy were good friends of Helen & Lee for many years. They had many dinners together & lots of good experiences thru the years in the Henderson area and @ Lake Striker. The Earth home was an amazing feat & there was TRUE LOE, seen, as they assisted each other in the “golden years”. Love , Prayers, & support. The Yancy Family, The Smith Family & The Banks Family
