Fred Alexander McAllister, Jr. passed away November 4, 2018 at his home in Nassau Bay, Texas.  He was born March 18, 1930 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  Fred served in the Air Force as a radio operator, and he later married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Gibson McAllister.  He received his Aeronautical Engineering degree from the University of Texas at Austin and went on to work for NASA at the Johnson Space Center where he rode his bicycle to work for many years.  Fred worked on the Apollo space suit for EC Crew Systems Division in the early 1960’s.  Later he was Apollo Subsystems Manager for Command Module crew equipment, which involved numerous hardware items flown on Apollo missions.  He wrote an important Apollo Experience Report on this hardware.  He was Crew Systems Division Head of various crew provisions branches and later Division Manager for National Space Transportation System and Space Shuttle, working for SP/Manned Systems Division.  As a result, Fred performed important and successful roles in contributing to NASA’s Apollo and Shuttle programs.

Fred left behind his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia McAllister; children Pamela and husband John Fridye, and Todd McAllister and wife Gia; grandchildren Kimberly and McKenna Fridye, Matthew and wife Danielle McAllister, and Michelle McAllister.  He is preceded in death by his parents Fred McAllister, Sr. and Alice Lowe McAllister, and sisters Virginia McAllister Uhrich and Alice McAllister.   Fred was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held December 28, 2018 at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive.  People will meet at the Administration Office at 1:45pm to be escorted to the chapel for the 2pm service, which is being officiated by Reverend Helen DeLeon of Webster Presbyterian Church.  A reception will follow at 4pm at Webster Presbyterian Church, 201 W. NASA Parkway (NASA Road 1).
