Carol McCants will be remembered for her joyful spirit, kind heart and love of Kemah. She died of heart complications April 23, 2014 at the age of 53.

Ms. McCants was born in Beaumont, Texas on October 17, 1960. She graduated from Kirby High School in Woodville, Texas in 1978 and moved to Kemah in 1989. She was actively involved in the city’s events and activities. She was the co-founder of the Kemah Pan Jam Festival, a founding member of Christmas in Kemah and an original member of the Kemah Lion’s Club. She served on the City of Kemah’s KCDC for many years. Matt Wiggins, Kemah resident and longtime friend of Ms. McCants, referred to her as “Kemah’s personal go-to-girl.” The Kemah archway and lighthouse on 6th street were projects she completed while on the board. She also ran a successful gift shop and bed and breakfast located in the Kemah Lighthouse district Ms. McCants is survived by her mother Shirley Greenwood, father Kenneth McCants his wife Judy and her sisters, Connie Davis, Lucretia Thacker and Eulonda McCants. Nieces and nephews are Ashley Bueker , Elizabeth Davis, Zachary Fairchild and great-niece Sophia Bueker.

There will be a visitation Friday, April 25 at Crowder Funeral Home in League City from 6-8PM. The funeral service will be held Saturday April 26, 1:00PM at the Central Baptist Church located at 801 S. Margaret Ave., in Kirbyville, Texas.

In memory of Carol the family requests donations be made to the Bay Area SPCA or the Kemah Lions Club for Texas Eye Bank.
