Lily May Contos
Lily May Contos, age 93, passed away on May 8th, 2018 in Houston Texas. She was born on February 20, 1925 in Keene, New Hampshire, and lived most of her life in Willimantic, Connecticut with her husband, Thomas Contos, and their family of five children. Lily graduated from Windham High School in Willimantic and had an amazing talent for knitting, crocheting and sewing, making countless beautiful pieces for family and friends. She had an infectious smile and an incredible zest for life. Lily and Thomas moved to Houston in 1997 but continued to make regular trips to visit family in Nevada, Connecticut, Maine and Rhode Island. She was an avid sports fan and loved playing tennis and golf with Thomas, as well as attending concerts and sporting events to enjoy all her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She was employed by Electromotive Manufacturing in Willimantic, but her greatest joy was her family, and their mutual admiration is displayed in the countless photographs of family gatherings throughout the years.
Lily May is survived by her brother, Alfred Williams, of Connecticut; children: Thomas Contos, wife Marie of Nevada, Virginia Contos Larose of Maine, Victoria Garbecki, husband Charles of Rhode Island, Peggy Ann Contos Harvey of Connecticut and Dorene Florie, husband Michael of Texas. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Brian Contos, Karrie Gay, Tracy Cecil, Robyn Caisse Herrera, Wendy Ellen Caisse, Alex Caisse, Nicole Bose, Thomas Garbecki, Jaime Nerissa Harvey, Gyna Dionne, Scott Dionne, Trysta Dionne, and Joseph Florie; 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews; longtime family friends: Karen, Robert, Stuart, and Brenda Keating of Connecticut.
Viewing will be from 5-8 pm on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Crowder Funeral Home. Graveside services will begin at 1:30 pm, Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, TX.
My Dearest Mother. You were a most amazing woman and a wonderful mother. I miss you more than words can express. You were loving and caring and so encouraging to your children and grand children. Mom, your talent and creativity with your knitting and crocheting and sewing was so admirable. Everything you created was perfect. You would settle for nothing less. You were always so appreciative of your family and friends and never failed to say thank you with you big, beautiful smile. The love we share will be with me always. Until we meet again Mom I will still look to you for love and guidance. You were such a very special person and I love you with all my heart. Rest in peace my Dear Mother. I miss you.
