Dorothy Ludwig
Dorothy Ludwig, a beloved resident and community volunteer of League City passed away Saturday, July 15th due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. Dorothy was born to Sebastian and Domenica Ghirardi and lived most of her life in League City when it was just a small town in a home that has now been preserved as a historical sight. She was also a devout and active member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She married the love of her life, William Ludwig, in 1950 at the age of 19. After being stationed around the world for the Air Force, Dorothy and William settled back in League City where they would spend many happy years together with their children and grandchildren. Dorothy began working for NASA in 1964 . After being promoted several times during the height of the space race she retired in 1985. She remained active in the League City Historical Society by donating her time, energy, and personal family and NASA memorabilia. She was unbelievably compassionate. Her heart and generosity knew no bounds. Her door was always open- literally. She rarely locked it. You could walk in and people often did. And they would be met with a warm smile, a listening ear, and a warm meal. She is survived and will be missed by her children Billy (Linda Ludwig), John (Inga Ludwig), Linda Barr, and Diane; grandchildren Amanda, Callie (Ben Buso), Cody, Jennifer (Michael Robison), Monica (Kyle Hopkins), and Valerie Barr; and great-granddaughters Emma and Ellie. The Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 6:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7 o’clock at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573. A Funeral Service will follow on Wednesday at 2:00pm at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1612 East Walker, League City, Texas 77573 with Deacon Russ Carroll presiding. Interment will take place at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.
Our condolences to the family. I have many fond memories of Dorothy from our days working at NASA. I remember how much she loved football and what an avid fan she was of the Oilers. Dorothy loved her family and was very proud of them. She shared her joy of life with all who knew her. Her life was one well lived.
