Captain David Edward Farris

Captain David Edward Farris, 66, of Santa Fe, died peacefully, surrounded by his immediate family, on June 12, 2017. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Ervin Farris, his mother, Thelma Ray Cox (Farris) Stalsby and a sister, Elisa D. Leonard.

He leaves behind four sisters and two brothers; Lynda Ryan of Sour Lake, Marcia Geheb (Mike) of Tennessee, Julia C. Vasquez (Eddie) and Carolyn M. Fite of Santa Fe, Rod R. Stalsby (Linda) of Irving, and Philip L. Farris of LaMarque. He also leaves an aunt, uncle, nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Striker.

David played football for the Ball High School Tors (the team that went to the state playoffs in 1969) and then The University of Texas-Arlington on a football scholarship. He earned his Master Captain’s license at a young age and worked for T & T Marine for 40 years. When not working, he loved to fish with friends. He was the kind of man that would give you his last dime and the shirt off his back. The family is grateful to Harbor Hospice for their attentive and loving care.  Special thanks go to Vickie Durst for her loving support.

Per his request, there will not be a memorial service. His ashes will be scattered at sea. Rest in peace, Captain.

“Mightier than the waves of the sea, is His love for you”; Psalms 93:4.

  3. I just saw this on 1/18/22 & my heart broke into a thousand pieces. I knew David all my life. His parents & my parents were best friends. I last saw him in July 1969 when we went to the movies to see Romeo & Juliet. He is a friend that I have thought about everyday. So sorry to his family for their loss. I knew Linda & Marcia the most. I will always keep him in my heart.
